Interestingly, Rhode Island Whites are not just a different color of Rhode Island Reds.  They were made from different bird species including cochins, wyandottes and white leghorns.  They were bred to look like Rhode Island Reds in body shape, and lay the same amount of large delicious brown eggs.

One of the key distinctions with this breed is that they tend to lay during the winter in addition to summer.  How wonderful to have eggs year round.  And they are excellent layers...about 220-280 eggs per year.  They are calm, and start laying eggs from an earlier age than most chickies.
